This writeup is just to show the easiest way to remove the front and rear bumpers. This question is asked all the time, so I figured I would write it up. I will show it using my Rieger front, however its the same for the stock bumper as well.

The rear bumper is stock

SUPPLIES -You just need standard tools. 10mm nut driver, torx bits and a philips head screwdriver. Anyone should be able to do this. Lets start with the front bumper:

Front Bumper Removal

The easiest way to get the front bumper off is to start by removing the headlights. This has been done before and has been written up in the Clear Corner Mod.Once again I will remind you: DO NOT start your car with the headlights removed! This could result in an auto-level error in your dash (meaning the headlights are no longer adjusted). If you accidentally do this, please follow the Removing the Auto-Level Error writeup.

After the headlights are out, you will be able to look down the front of the fender and see 3 10mm nuts which hold the bumper on. You should remove these on both sides (6 all together)

After the headlights are out, and you have removed the 6, 10mm nuts, you need to LOOSEN the bolts which hold the bumper rebar and brackets together. There are 2 long bolts which hold these together (they are hex bolts - allen wrench). You DO NOT have to remove these. If you look down on the bumper as you unscrew them, you can see when they dis-engage. If you remove them, its a pain to line them back up!

There is one of these bolts on either side of the bumper...they are located where the arrows show on my Rieger.

Since everyone tends to strip these things, I would say that if you are planning to remove these often (like me) you may want to get a new set. OR you can dremel slots into the bolt heads to allow easy acces with a flat head screwdriver instead of the allen keys.

If you are running a stock bumper, you will have to remove the lower grill (by just pulling on it) in order to get to these bolts.

here's what it looks like with the camera looking up (where the arrows were in the previous pictures)

After you loosen those two bolts, you are almost done. Now you have to go to the fender wells and remove the one torx screw on either side. This can easily be done by turning the wheels left/right. There are a couple screws that are keeping the fender liner in tight, and then one torx on each side that screws into the bumper.

The picture here is for the REAR bumper, passenger side, but its the same idea. Simply unbolt and move the fender lining to access the torx screw holding in the bumper.

After the two screws (one on each side) are removed, you pull out (away from the car) on the bumper at the lower corner.

With the 6, 10 mm nuts removed, the 2 allen bolts loosened, and the 2 torx screws removed, you can now slide the bumper forward and off the car. Do this SLOWLY as there are still electrical/mechanical connections that need to be disconnected.

If you find that the bumpers is not moving forward easily, you may not have loosened the two allen bolts enough.

When you get the bumper to move, you will see this on the driver's side:

You will have to disconnect the three labeled connections. They are for the horns, fog lights and the headlight washers. You will also have a headlight washer connection on the passenger side. After these are all disconnected, the bumper will be completely disconnected from the car

Rear Bumper Removal

The rear bumper removal is very similar to the front. The first thing you need to do is remove the trunk liners on the passenger and driver's side. This has been shown in the Sub Install.

When you have the liner off on either side, you will see 5, 10 mm nuts on either side. This step is similar to the front:

This is what the driver's side looks like after the trunk liner is removed

After the 10 mm nuts are removed, you have to remove the screws in the wheel well. This has been shown previously for the front bumper

With the liner bolts removed, the last thing you need to do is remove two screws on the underside of the bumper...just lay on the ground and look up..you can't miss them. Here's one on the passenger side

After these two screws are removed, the rear bumper pulls right off
Thats all you need to do to remove the bumpers
